10 For McNeese State University softball player Alexis Dibbley, her comeback was not one big moment. It was built slowly—through patience, rehab, encouragement and the determination to return to the game she loves. A junior pitcher/outfielder for the Cowgirls, Dibbley wears No. 15 and knows what it means to represent Southwest Louisiana. Before coming to McNeese, she grew up in Moss Bluff and played at Sam Houston High School. Softball had long been part of her life, which made stepping back even harder. A painful back injury During her sophomore season, Dibbley began having back pain that eventually forced her off the field. After seeing several physicians, she was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis, a spinal condition that can cause lower back pain. She missed the rest of the season, sat out the summer and slowly worked her way back in the fall.
